TaylorMade M4 Driver Review

The TaylorMade M4 driver is my pick as the next best driver for beginners and high handicap players. It will not be available until Feb.16th 2018.

The twist face design was engineered to correct the mishits that all golfers make. It will improve your game whether you are a beginner or a pro. The problem with the other club face designs is that they are uniform in curvature from heel to toe and crown to sole. With the twist face design you can hit off center from the sweetspot and still make a decent shot. The curvature provides more loft in the upper toe area and less loft in the lower heel area to help balance the straightness of your shot and send it down the middle of the fairway.

Engineering of the new twist face design came from studying hundreds of thousands of hits made by golfers of different levels. It wasn’t until recently that the engineers were able to measure exactly what was happening when golfers would mishit off the face of the club in specific areas like the upper or lower part of the heel or toe.

Another new improvement is the hammerhead slot that greatly increases the sweetspot area across the face of the club. The expanded sweetspot area adds more distance and even more forgiveness than just having the new twist face design. Moving the weight from the hammerhead slot, also moves the CG ( center of gravity ) to the back perimeter of the club head and improves the MOI ( moment of inertia ), which all add up to an increase in ball speed for distance and a larger sweetspot for more forgiveness.

For golfers who have a slice to their shots, the M4 D-Type driver may be a good choice to correct that problem. Anyone who consistently slices the ball should consider it. All of these drivers are good choices, just remember the basics. The M4 driver is the best choice for beginners or high handicap players. If you are a more experienced player or a pro the M3 might be better for you, and if you have problems slicing the ball then consider the M4 D-Type driver.
